Waiting On Wednesday #9

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This weeks "can't-wait-to-read" pick for me is:

Dark Souls
Author: Paula Morris
Release Date: August 1st, 2011

Welcome to York, England.

Mist lingers in the streets.

Narrow buildings cast long shadows.

This is the most haunted city in the world. . . .

Miranda Tennant arrives in York with a terrible, tragic secret. She is eager to lose herself amid the quaint cobblestones, hoping she won’t run into the countless ghosts who supposedly roam the city. . . .

Then she meets Nick, an intense, dark-eyed boy who knows all of York’s hidden places and histories. Miranda wonders if Nick is falling for her, but she is distracted by another boy — one even more handsome and mysterious than Nick. He lives in the house across from Miranda and seems desperate to send her some sort of message. Could this boy be one of York’s haunted souls?

Soon, Miranda realizes that something dangerous — and deadly — is being planned. And she may have to face the darkest part of herself in order to unravel the mystery — and find redemption.

I'm really looking forward to this book coming out, it sounds  great in a deliciously eerie sort of way. The synopsis immediately drew me in and has me curious about Nick, wondering what kind of secret Miranda has? and who is the mysterious boy living across the street from her? is he really a haunted soul? I also love the cover! I've found myself drawn to dark and haunting paranormal stories and I'm thinking this one will be very much enjoyed.

Teaser Tuesday #7

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Should Be Reading.

The idea is to:
~Grab your current read
~Open to a random page
~Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
~Don't forget, no spoilers! (You don’t want to ruin the book for others)
~Share the title & author too, so that others can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I'm currently reading:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

by: Seth Grahame-Smith

"Something leaned over me. Its eyes were a pair of black marbles. Its skin a translucent collage of pulsing blue veins. And its mouth... its mouth could barely contain its wet, glassy fangs. It was Henry."

Page 13

Book synopsis:

Abraham Lincoln was just a boy when he learned that his mother's untimely death was actually the work of a vampire. From then on, he vowed to devote his intelligence, strength--and skill with an ax--to the elimination of the soulless creatures. It was a path of vengeance that would lead him all the way to the White House.

No one ever knew about Lincoln's valiant struggle against the undead... until author Seth Grahame-Smith laid eyes on Abe's secret journal--the first living person to do so in over 140 years. Putting a supernatural spin on revisionist history, Seth has reconstructed Lincoln's true life story--while revealing the role vampires played in the birth, growth and near-death of our nation.

This book came well recommended by a good friend of mine and so far I'm really liking it. I love vampires and I'm a total history nerd so this book is a perfect fit for me lol.

Hope you all enjoy the teaser :)

Waiting On Wednesday #8

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This weeks "can't-wait-to-read" pick for me is:

Dead Of Night: A Zombie Novel

Author: Jonathan Maberry

Release Date: October 25th, 2011

A prison doctor injects a condemned serial killer with a formula designed to keep his consciousness awake while his body rots in the grave.  But all drugs have unforeseen side-effects.  Before he could be buried, the killer wakes up.  Hungry.  Infected.  Contagious.  This is the way the world ends.  Not with a bang…but a bite.

-----------------------------------

So, to me the description of this book has a deliciously creepy, nail biting feel to it. I've always had quite the fascination with Zombies, some people may see that as strange but nevertheless I find them interesting. I also love Dystiopian themed books, they're starting to become one of my favorite genres.

The cover on this book is what caught my attention in the first place, the way the hands are grabbing and bending the bars and how you can see bits of faces in the background gives it a slightly ominous feeling, like they're coming and you can't stop them (or at least in my mind thats what it seems like :p). After seeing the cover and reading the synopsis, this was immediately added to my "to-read" list.

Zombies + and end-of-the-world type storyline = a book I must read. I'll really be looking forward to getting this, and as a plus it'll be coming out right around Halloween :)

What's your Waiting On Wednesday? :)

Waiting On Wednesday #7

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This weeks "can't-wait-to-read" pick for me is:

As I Wake
By: Elizabeth Scott
Release Date: September 15th, 2011

What if you woke up and didn't know where you were?

What if you didn't know who you were?

And what if, when your memories started to come back--what if they didn't match the you that you're supposed to be?

Ava is welcomed home from the hospital by a doting mother, lively friends, and a crush finally beginning to show interest. There's only one problem: Ava can't remember any of them--and can't shake the eerie feeling that she's not who they say she is.

Ava struggles to break through her amnesiac haze as she goes through the motions of high-school life, but the memories that surface take place in a very different world, where Ava and familiar-faced friends are under constant scrutiny and no one can be trusted. Ava doesn't know what to make of these visions, or of the boy who is at the center of them all, until he reappears in her life and offers answers . . . but only in exchange for her trust.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off let me just say, is this cover gorgeous or what?!? It grabbed my attention immediately and I had to read the synopsis. I find myself lingering on this cover quite a lot, as it evokes emotion and makes you wonder about the girl and what she is thinking and feeling. The book seems to have an interesting storyline and I'm looking forward to it coming out :)

Princess Of The Midnight Ball
By: Jessica Day George

"Because he had once been human, the King Under Stone sometimes found himself plagued by human emotions. He was experiencing one now, as he faced the mortal woman before him, but it took a moment for him to give it a name. After a pause he labeled it "triumph."

Page 1

Book Synopsis:

A tale of twelve princesses doomed to dance until dawn…

Galen is a young soldier returning from war; Rose is one of twelve princesses condemned to dance each night for the King Under Stone. Together Galen and Rose will search for a way to break the curse that forces the princesses to dance at the midnight balls. All they need is one invisibility cloak, a black wool chain knit with enchanted silver needles, and that most critical ingredient of all—true love—to conquer their foes in the dark halls below.

But malevolent forces are working against them above ground as well, and as cruel as the King Under Stone has seemed, his wrath is mere irritation compared to the evil that awaits Galen and Rose in the brighter world above.

Enjoy the teaser! :)
