Review: Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires #1)

Title: Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires #1)

Author: Rachel Caine

Genre: YA/Paranormal Romance/Horror

"From the author of the popular Weather Warden series comes the debut of an exciting new series set in Morganville, Texas, where you would be well advised to avoid being out after dark.

College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life, but they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood."

Everyone knows vampires have become quite a fad in YA books these days. For me personally when it comes to vampire stories, I can be picky because when I read about vampires I want the real deal and sometimes the general storylines  can get overdone. I've been on the lookout for another good vampire series and a really good friend of mine recommended The Morganville Vampires, so I finally got around to checking it out. From the first page I was immediately pulled into the story.

I really liked Claire, her character was interesting and different. I connected with her because we share some similarities in our nerd-like ways. I also loved Eve, I really liked her sense of humor and the fact that she was so willing to kick some butt on her friends behalf. Overall the main characters were very likable and entertaining.

I don't want to go into too much detail and give away spoilers, but really liked the fact that there was some vampire myth incorporated into the "evil" vampires and there are some other supernatural elements as well that really added to them and made them and gave them more depth. I'm very glad to say I wasn't disappointed in those areas.

There were a few places that were a little on the "cheesy" side, but overall the story was entertaining and kept my interest completely. I think Ms. Caine did a great job with the characterization, the narration of the story was also very well done. The ending was definitely a cliff hanger but I've come to expect that with most series, but luckily for me I already have the second book :)

This book was fast paced, witty, humorous, and entertaining. I'm definitely hooked on this series and will be continuing on with it to the end :)

4.5 Stars!
